Alamo Farmhouse

This redwood-shaded Alamo farmhouse belongs to two empty nesters preparing for the next chapter of life. Spearman Spaces remodeled the pool house and updated the main residence with aging-in-place design principles, including accessible layouts and functional upgrades for the long term. Since the first phase of the project was completed, we’ve been invited back to remodel additional areas including a butler’s pantry, a reimagined primary closet complete with a washer and dryer, and updates to the kitchen. Practical finishes, heritage-grade furniture, and compelling art now bring comfort and beauty to a home that balances relaxed living with thoughtful longevity.

DESIGN ELEMENTS

American farmhouse architecture has historically been rooted in utility, durability, and an honest relationship to landscape and daily life. Our work within these homes reflects that lineage by prioritizing interiors that feel enduring rather than trend-driven, where comfort, function, and material integrity carry equal visual weight. Furnishings that best support this architecture tend to emphasize craftsmanship, weight, and material authenticity — substantial wood tables, heritage-quality upholstered seating, woven or natural fiber accents, and storage pieces that feel built to last rather than decorative. Metals that patinate over time, stone surfaces with natural movement, and textiles with visible weave or subtle pattern help reinforce the sense of longevity and quiet character. Art and objects often introduce contrast, bringing in contemporary perspective or cultural narrative while allowing the architecture and larger furniture pieces to ground the space.
