SAN FRANCISCO MODERN VICTORIAN
Our goal with this 120-year-old San Francisco Victorian was to elevate the outdated interior and reintroduce the charming details of the original era—albeit with a modern lens. Traditional elements like wall paneling, dentil crown molding, and custom oak cabinetry nod to the home’s Victorian roots, while surrealist art, avant-garde collectibles, and stacks of design books provide an unexpected juxtaposition. In addition to remodeling the interior and exterior, Spearman Spaces reclaimed 600 square feet of garage space to add a mudroom, laundry room, and a home gym outfitted with an elliptical, Tonal, and free weights.
MARIN COUNTY CRAFTSMAN
This 1959 hillside Craftsman is nestled among redwoods, eucalyptus trees, and views of the Bay, accessed by winding roads. The top floor was redesigned to reinforce the connection between the home and the natural surroundings. The original stained-glass window and wood-paneled vaulted ceiling were preserved to honor the home’s architectural integrity. In the kitchen, we designed custom pine cabinetry in a palette that references both the coastal fog and the surrounding foliage. Panel-ready appliances maintain the visual cohesion and let the forest views take center stage.
TRANSITIONAL ITALIANATE
This young family needed to make the most of every inch of space in their San Francisco Italianate home. Spearman Spaces remodeled the attic to create an additional 600 square feet of livable area, including a children’s bedroom with a closet, a reading nook, and a dedicated play space. We also redesigned the living and dining rooms with new layouts and furnishings. The family brought us back to complete other rooms in the home, a testament to their trust in our approach and the results we delivered.
ALAMO FARMHOUSE
This redwood-shaded Alamo farmhouse belongs to two empty nesters preparing for the next chapter of life. Spearman Spaces remodeled the pool house and updated the main residence with aging-in-place design principles, including accessible layouts and functional upgrades for the long term. Since the first phase of the project was completed, we’ve been invited back to remodel additional areas including a butler’s pantry, a reimagined primary closet complete with a washer and dryer, and updates to the kitchen. Practical finishes, heritage-grade furniture, and compelling art now bring comfort and beauty to a home that balances relaxed living with thoughtful longevity.
SAN FRANCISCO CRAFTSMAN VICTORIAN
This San Francisco Craftsman Victorian underwent a full gut renovation. Spearman Spaces stripped the home down to its studs and rebuilt it to support modern life—upgrading all mechanical systems, adding insulation, new windows, and resolving structural issues. The new interior focuses on texture, natural materials, and custom built-ins to maximize storage. The furnishings and finishes were selected to feel warm, classic, and enduring.
OAKLAND BUNGALOW
This charming Oakland bungalow needed thoughtful finishes, fixtures, and furnishings to match its owners’ busy lives. Spearman Spaces created serene spaces for this executive couple, including a spa-like bathroom retreat. Every room balances comfort, function, and timeless style. Collaborating with local artisans and makers, we layered in meaningful details and custom work to create a cohesive and enduring home.
BERKELEY SPANISH REVIVAL
This historic Edwin Lewis Snyder-designed Spanish Colonial Revival in the Berkeley Hills is being approached with a focus on preservation and modern usability. Much of the work focused on enhancing flow and function for two full-time work-from-home parents. We sourced authentic finishes and designed custom millwork in keeping with the Spanish Revival style, while the bathrooms were modernized to incorporate transitional elements—melding timeless forms with present-day needs. The result is a home that honors its past while embracing a more contemporary way of living.

BERKELEY MID-CENTURY MODERN
A growing family of five brought us on to design a 2,000-square-foot addition to their pristine mid-century modern home. Integrating new spaces into the existing post-and-beam, cantilevered, split-level design was no easy task, but we approached it with reverence and rigor. The addition features bespoke cherry cabinetry, vintage-inspired lighting, and a color palette pulled directly from mid-century laminates. Every design decision was grounded in the era’s enduring commitment to craftsmanship, form, and restraint.

PACIFIC HEIGHTS CONTEMPORARY ITALIANATE
Spearman Spaces was hired to breathe warmth and character into this circa-1900 Italianate home that was previously renovated with an expansive open floor plan, chef-style kitchens, European oak floors and exquisite indoor/outdoor living. Our goal was to reintroduce soul into the space—bridging the home’s historic exterior architecture with a more contemporary interior language. We layered texture and tone through moody wallcoverings, custom wood built-ins, sculptural lighting, and richly tactile bedding. The result is a refined yet welcoming home that honors its past while embracing modern-day comfort and quiet luxury.

CALIFORNIA RANCHER (MID-CENTURY INFLUENCED)
Spearman Spaces was engaged to update the kitchen and bathrooms in this single-story California Ranch while maintaining the existing building envelope and overall footprint. Working within tight spatial constraints, we reconfigured the interior layout to maximize storage, functionality, and circulation, creating a more efficient plan without adding square footage. Throughout the remodel, we layered in character and charm, drawing inspiration from the home’s Mid-Century influences rather than competing with them. The finished home feels more reflective of the clients’ lifestyle.
